Mission Accomplished

Read John 17:1-8

Reflect
I am struck in Jesus’ prayer how He addresses the Father with joy. Joy that came from knowing that all He and the Father had planned from eternity past, He, together with the Father, accomplished in full. He rejoices not only in this, but also in the anticipation of enjoying His previous pre-incarnation glory He had together with the Father.

I can think of nothing that brings greater joy than having a sense that what I am doing in life is lining up with what I feel He truly wants of me. It’s somewhat like Eric Liddell, in the movie Chariots of Fire, who said, “When I run, I feel His pleasure.” I don’t often feel this way, but the times I have, I know I want to feel it more.

And the even greater joy comes from an anticipation of being glorified with Him, knowing throughout eternity that my life had accomplished what He had wanted from eternity past.

This is eternal life—both now and forever.
