Read Mark 3:19b-35

“Who are my mother and my brothers?” Christ asks the crowd near the end of chapter 3. I want to avoid this saying like the plague because of how uncomfortable it makes me. I don’t like having to think about Jesus needing to rebuke or talk to His family. And His teaching here seems to allude to an uncomfortable situation from earlier in the chapter.
In my ideal vision of that situation, Jesus’ family would be reverent and supportive of the Son of God, knowing the full importance of His existence. But verse 21 blows that vision to pieces: Read the rest of this entry »
