The Good Soil

Read  Mark 4:1-20

Reflect
This parable is about the seed being sown into the ground. It’s a parable, so what it is telling us is that the seed represents the Word of God, the gospel message. The soil represents the different types of hearers in the world. There are four kinds of soil: hard soil, thin and rocky, thorns and weeds, and good soil. In the hard soil, people don’t even hear God. In the thin and rocky, people hear but don’t let the Word of God sprout roots. In the thorns and weeds, the Word of God is heard, sprouts roots, but is overtaken by worldly concerns that choke it out.
